Pilanesberg National Park

The Pilanesberg National Park ranks among the largest of the national parks in South Africa (it is in fact the fourth largest park) and covers an area of 55 000 hectare. Located only 2 hours drive from Johannesburg and in the malaria-free area North West Province, the park is very popular for weekends away - for families and couples alike. For those wanting to try their luck on the slot machines, the Sun City complex is situated just adjacent to the reserve.

Madikwe Game Reserve

The Madikwe Game Reserve, situated against the Botwana border, juts three hours drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria, is another family friendly, malaria-free game reserve located in the North West Province. But unlike the Pilanesberg National Park, visitors can only enter this reserve by booking into one of the lodges. Here guests are taken on morning and evening game drives in 4x4 game viewing vehicles and accompanied by a qualified ranger.
